Leadership doesn't always happen in boardrooms, on stages or around meeting tables. 

Sometimes it looks like helping a family member navigate a complex service system. Sometimes it is advocating for a child whose needs aren't being understood. It might be supporting a partner through illness, caring for an ageing parent, or showing up for a friend experiencing a difficult time. 

These acts aren't always publicly recognised as leadership. But they are part of what builds and sustains our communities. 

During National Carers Week, 11–17 October 2026, the theme Care for a Carer, Making Carers Visible provides an opportunity to think differently about both caring and leadership.
