Halfway through: Our Progress So Far
We are halfway through the Community Leadership Program—and what an incredible year it’s been so far!
Participants have completed their first immersive experience, equipping them with valuable tools such as coaching conversations, self-awareness and communication in leading teams, to add to their community leadership toolkit. They have heard from a number of local leaders, learning more about our region and its strategic priorities. They have been actively engaging with local communities through site visits to:
· The Timboon P-12 TAP Program
· Budj Bim
· a Local Government Council meeting, and
Inspiration has been drawn for the following sample alumni projects to bring a deeper understanding of what it takes to pitch, plan and deliver a community project.
· Fruit Rescue,
· CFA/VFSB Championships Masterplan,
· Warrnambool Men’s Shed Strategic Plan,
· Thrive Youth Hub,
· Loved & Shared and
· the Heywood Indigenous War Memorial Water Tower.
After much deliberation the three community projects have been selected and are well underway. They are:
· Belonging South West will deliver a forum that brings together multicultural community members, local services and community leaders to explore how to create a more welcoming and inclusive South West.
· Community Hub – Coleraine will engage with community to assess the need for a space such as a community hub in Coleraine.
· Strengthening the Circle: A Strategic Plan for Wata Waetnanda will engage with Wata Waetnanda and the local community to create a strategic plan that builds sustainability and supports community-led reconciliation.
We are energised by the progress made and cannot wait to see what the rest of the year will bring.
